I am the Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers in Charlottesville/Albemarle. Since I work in the field of Adult Education, I see how difficult it is for people who can’t get what they need out of a K-12 system. I serve on the Virginia Board of Education’s Adult Education and Literacy Advisory Committee and I’m on the Board for the Virginia Association for Adult and Continuing Education.
My two children have spent the past 12 years in Albemarle County schools. For the most part, it has been a positive experience, but I know that’s not the case for every student. I want all children to have the opportunities and success that mine experienced in the public school system.
I moved to the Scottsville district of Albemarle County in 1995. As a fan of lifelong learning, I hold a BFA from East Carolina University, an MFA from Louisiana State University, and a MNPS from University of Richmond (Master of Nonprofit Studies). I grew up attending public schools and am a graduate of J. R. Tucker High School in Henrico County.
